Over the last several months, we’ve released a new career experience in Scoir. Now, we’re happy to announce the final phase is live—our integration with PrinciplesYou 🚀
Psst... We're excited to offer a PrinciplesYou Certification for Counselors through Scoir U! In collaboration with the founders and leading experts at PrinciplesYou, we built a certification so you an become a PrinciplesYou expert. Check it out!
We’re excited to partner with PrinciplesYou and proud to be the first college and career readiness platform to bring the powerful character assessment to schools across the country (included with Scoir at no additional cost!).
Because PrinciplesYou is designed for the modern workforce that students will be joining, results give them a better understanding of how they’ll fit in, how jobs truly match their tendencies, and how they can work with different personalities in different fields.
Let’s take a closer look!
PrinciplesYou is a scientifically-validated tool envisioned and funded by entrepreneur investor Ray Dalio and created by world-renowned psyshometricians Dr. Adam Grant, Dr. Brian Little, and Dr. John Golden. PrinciplesYou brings student assessments into the 21st century because its framework is designed to tap into character traits.
Older assessments tend to focus on current job interests or suitability, which can be one-dimensional when trying to make decisions about the future. This new assessment measures traits across three orientations:
PrinciplesYou underwent a rigorous process of selection, testing, retesting, and validation to ensure the assessment accurately represents and measures underlying traits and facets. They employed psychometric techniques—a century old sub-discipline focused on quantifying psychological phenomena—to support the process.
In addition to the main assessment, they’ve created 28 Archetypes, as users often find a character type to be an intuitive way to understand their traits. So far, 87% of users have said they find the types and the associated descriptions to be either “extremely valuable” or “quite valuable.”
Once a high school enables PrinciplesYou, students will see the option to take the assessment from their dashboard, profile, and Careers within Discover. The assessment takes less than a class period, or around 30-40 minutes to complete.
Because of the stability of PrinciplesYou, students will only need to take the assessment once. We recommend students take the assessment their freshman or sophomore year, so they can apply the learnings to their college search and exploration process within Scoir.
Students will rank questions that center around how much they agree or disagree with a particular statement. They'll see their progress at the top of the page. If they leave the assessment, they can pick up where they left off.
Once complete, students can download a full report or go straight to their career matches based on the assessment. Results automatically upload into the students’ Drive for counselors to view and help better guide students through the college and career discovery process.
When students choose to download the report, they’ll see their Archetype, helping them better understand their tendencies, and how they’ll react and operate in relation to others in the classroom and workforce.
If students go to their matches, the filter for PrinciplesYou will be toggled on and they’ll see a list of best-fit careers based on the assessment results. Beyond PrinciplesYou matches, they can also filter careers by the Career Interest Assessment, 16 Career Clusters, Education Needed, Income, and Bright Outlook.
From there, they can dive in deeper by clicking into the career title to see the Overview, Income & Growth, Education, and Requirements.
Students can also add academic preferences to better match with colleges that support the education requirements of specific careers.
We hope you and your students enjoy PrinciplesYou and the new experience for careers! We’d love to know your thoughts and encourage you to share your feedback.
