Our Story

Why the future of education matters to us...

At SCOIR, we believe that education is the engine that drives opportunity. Yet, for too many young students, that engine jumps the track after high school. Barely half the students that begin college earn a degree; 15% of graduates get their degree from a different college than where they began; and 3 out of 4 graduates leave with too much debt and too little direction. While these national statistics might not represent your students, they do highlight a flawed system. SCOIR was created to help more students achieve more positive collegiate outcomes and we’re delighted to have you join a rapidly expanding list of high schools nationwide that are a part of our network.

Our Mission

Founded on the belief that students are more than their SATs and GPAs and that colleges are more than their rankings, SCOIR is leading a revolution to transform the college admissions process from a short-term, quantitative transaction to a long-term, qualitative engagement.

Our Core Values

The following principles serve as the cornerstone for how we approach our work and each other, and how we endeavor to live our lives. They might sound nice but incorporating these concepts into a culture of purpose is not easy and it is not for everyone.

01 Innovative

Creativity and innovation is not a right, but an obligation of all. We are creating something new. Crazy ideas and alternative perspectives foster ingenuity. We try many new things (some big, some small) and fail often, but learn and improve with each.

02 Audacious

Incremental improvement does not yield substantive change. To fundamentally disrupt the status quo, we must think boldly, act boldly, and be bold. We truly embrace risk-taking.

03 Tenacious

We are open-minded, but not dismayed by adversity. We pursue endeavors relentlessly when we are confident in our purpose.

04 Passionate

Positivity and enthusiasm are natural byproducts of pursuing our passions, and they are infectious. We act with urgency and precision because we believe deeply in our undertaking.

05 Supportive

We succeed and fail as a team; we do not indulge prima donnas. A group loyal to each other accomplishes more than any collection of individuals.

06 Transparent

We share openly and honestly because we trust and respect one another. Constructive criticism is more valuable than affirmation when the goal is perpetual improvement.
