Spark Career Curiosity Early with Scoir for Middle Schools

Spark Career Curiosity Early with Scoir for Middle Schools
All About Scoir for Middle Schools | Scoir
5:41

As a middle school counselor, you know that Gen Alpha has their own way of saying things (What is Skibidi? Who knows).

When it comes to career exploration, engaging them in a way that speaks their language and in a format they’re used to is key. In that way, Scoir is a total W!

Scoir’s Middle School solution helps counselors ignite career curiosity early with fun, personalized tools that meet students where they are. Even better, it does this without adding to counselors' workloads. Plus, since Scoir continues into high school, students can build on their early career exploration and make informed decisions throughout their secondary school journey.

In this article, we provide an overview of Scoir’s Middle School solution and helpful tips on how to use it, including:

What’s In It For You

Here's what you'll unlock when your middle school becomes a Scoir partner.

1. Engaging Career Exploration

Interactive and age-appropriate tools help students connect their interests to real-world careers. Scoir helps students explore careers and colleges both independently and with their counselor or guardian.

Other college and career readiness platforms often focus on assessments and rigid career paths, whereas Scoir fosters exploration and connection in a way that’s engaging and student-driven.

2. Time-Saving for Counselors

Ready-made assignments make guiding students through career-readiness lessons and activities easier while tracking progress.

3. Seamless High School Transition

Students' career interests, activities, and progress carry over into high school, ensuring a smooth and continuous career exploration experience.

4. Long-Term Career Development

Scoir is a platform that empowers students from middle school through high school, helping them make confident and informed decisions about college, careers, and their future.

Did you know? Unlike some competitors, Scoir doesn’t sell students’ Personally Identifiable Information.

Top Scoir Tools for Middle Schools

When your middle school signs up for Scoir, here’s what you’ll unlock.

1. Assignments

As students advance through school, keep everyone on schedule by assigning and managing student tasks. Tasks make it easier to guide students through career readiness lessons and activities while tracking progress. Counselors can also create a plan of recurring tasks and forms that are automatically assigned and can be reused year after year.

2. Forms

Use robust Forms to organize and deliver student lessons and activities. Simply add fields you want to customize into the editor and include your directions. Once created, assign the form as a task for students and capture information and submissions.

3. College and Career Search

Counselors and students can explore comprehensive career details like education needed, required skills, daily tasks, and similar job titles, helping you better guide students through discovery. Students can also search for colleges on Scoir and discover colleges that can help them pursue their career path of choice.

(P.S. Any student and parent/guardian can create a Scoir account for free, even if their middle school doesn’t pay for Scoir.)

4. 6-12 Career Readiness Curriculum

The Career Readiness Curriculum for grades 6-8 includes ASCA-compliant lesson plans that build as your students grow, including worksheets and slide decks that you can utilize in the classroom.

Personality and Career Assessments that Pair Well with Scoir

Scoir has a PrinciplesYou Character Assessment and Career Interest Assessment that middle school counselors can choose to enable for their students. However, please keep in mind that these assessments may be better suited for 9-12 graders and are meant to be taken once. We put the control in the counselor's hands; it is up to the counselor if they'd like to enable these assessments for their 6th to 8th graders.

You can also make Scoir work with whatever career assessment you decide to use. For example, counselors can assign tasks for students to take an assessment, and once they complete the test, you can upload their results to School Drive for simple organization.

If you’re looking for a career assessment for middle schoolers, check these three out!
