For Colleges: Parent/Guardian Messaging Filters

For Colleges: Parent/Guardian Messaging Filters
Introducing Parent/Guardian Messaging Filters | Scoir
3:57

Parents are one of the most influential voices in a student’s college decision. Scoir’s Outreach Messaging segmentation lets enrollment teams reach these key influencers with precision, boosting engagement and guiding students toward your institution.

Let's dive into what's new!

Why Engaging Parents and Guardians Matters

Despite their influence, many colleges still lack the tools to communicate with parents/guardians with the same precision as they do with students. Enrollment teams often struggle to align family communication with student engagement, leading to missed opportunities during critical decision-making moments.

Parents and guardians aren’t just spectators—they’re active participants. On Scoir, when a linked parent/guardian suggests a college, 47% of students follow through and move the college from “suggested” to “following”, compared to just 35% when suggested by counselors. Once students are “following” your college, you can connect with them and their parents/guardians in Scoir to turn early interest into meaningful engagement, more inquiries, and more applications.

What's New: Expanded Parent/Guardian Filters

With this release, colleges can now apply the full set of flexible segmentation filters to parent/guardian messaging, matching the capabilities previously only available for student messaging on Scoir:

  • Flexible Filters 🆕: Now you can define parent/guardian segments by class year, high school, location, academic profile, or other engagement criteria, and apply these filters to both one-time and automated messages
  • One-Time Messages: Send messages to linked parents/guardians of followers (students who are “following”, “applying”, or have “applied” to your school) with the new ability to apply additional filters
  • Automated Messages: Trigger outreach automatically when a student takes an action, like following your college or moving it to “applying,” and now layer in the expanded filters for more targeted outreach

5 Quick Tips for Enrollment Teams

We know your team’s plate is full, so here are 5 quick tips you can easily adapt to your workflow:

1. Welcome Families Early

When a student follows your college, send parents/guardians a short message welcoming them to your community and highlighting an easy next step, like exploring your virtual tour. It helps families feel included right from the start.

💡 You can set this up as an automated message triggered by the “following” action.

2. Guide Families Through the Application Stage

If a student moves your college into “applying” on Scoir, send parents/guardians encouragement along with useful guidance like key deadlines, checklists, or where to find application support. Families want to help keep momentum going.

💡 You can set this up as an automated message triggered by the “applying” action.

3. Invite Parents/Guardians to Engage

Parents/guardians often coordinate visits and logistics. Target those linked to students in “applying” or “applied” with event invites—open houses, info sessions, or financial aid nights—so families show up informed and engaged.

4. Highlight Value and Outcomes

Use one-time messages to share outcomes data, alumni success stories, or unique program strengths with parents/guardians of students in “applying” or “applied”. Families are eager to see the return on their student’s investment.

5. Balance Frequency with Impact

Limit parent/guardian outreach to 1–2 purposeful messages per month per segment. Families will appreciate communication that’s helpful and timely, not overwhelming.
