Update on College Naming and Closings

As colleges and universities change their names, we want to keep you apprised of these updates so that you can properly advise your students as they search for and apply to these schools. Students, counselors, parents, and guardians searching for a college using the former name will continue to be directed to the correct college in Scoir. Here are some of the latest updates:

Recent College Closures (2023-2024)

• California

  • Holy Names University (CA) - Closed May 2023

  • Hussian College (CA and PA) - Closed August 2023

• Florida
  • Hodges University (FL) - Closed Summer 2024

• Illinois
  • St. Augustine College (IL) closed in December 2023 but was acquired by Lewis University (IL)
  • Lincoln Christian University (IL) - Closed May 2024
  • Northwestern College (IL) - Closed July 2024

• Iowa

  • Iowa Wesleyan University (IA) - Closed May 2023

• Michigan
  • Compass College of Film & Media (MI) closed July 2023 but was acquired by Calvin University (MI)
  • Finlandia University (MI) - Closed Summer 2023

• New Hampshire
  • Magdalen College of the Liberal Arts (NH) - Closed Spring 2024

• New York
  • Cazenovia College (NY) - Closed Spring 2023
  • The College of Saint Rose (NY) - Closed Spring 2024
  • St. John's University-Staten Island Campus (NY) - Closed Spring 2024

  • The University of the Arts (PA) is closed as of June 2024, and many students have transferred to Temple University

  • Columbia College Hollywood (CA) is now California College of ASU. It has become an affiliate with Arizona State University (ASU)

  • William Jessup University (CA) is now Jessup University

  • Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IN) is now two institutions: Indiana University, Indianapolis and Purdue University, Indianapolis
• Maine

  • Unity College (ME) is now Unity Environmental University

• Massachusetts
  • Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology (MA) is now Franklin Cummings Tech
• Michigan
  • Olivet College (MI) is now The University of Olivet
• Minnesota
