As colleges and universities close and merge, we want to keep you apprised of these updates so that you can properly advise your students as they search for and apply to schools. Students, counselors, parents, and guardians searching for a college on Scoir will continue to be directed to the correct school. Here are some of the latest updates on college closures, plus college mergers and acquisitions.

College Closures Announced in 2025

Here is a list of all the colleges that will close or have closed in 2025-2026.

  • Trinity Christian College - Closes May 2026

• Indiana

  • Martin University - Closed December 2025

• Massachusetts

  • Anna Maria College - Closes spring 2026

  • Hampshire College - Closes fall 2026

• Michigan

  • Siena Heights University - Closes May 2026

• New York

  • The King's College - Formally closed in 2025 (but has been shut down since 2023)

• North Carolina

  • St. Andrews University - Closed May 2025

• Oklahoma

  • Bacone College - Closed summer 2025

• Pennsylvania

  • Penn State Commonwealth Campuses - Closures to be completed by spring 2027

  • Limestone University - Closed May 2025

College Mergers & Acquisitions Announced in 2025

Here's a list of colleges that will merge in 2025-2026.

• Georgia

  • East Georgia State College will merge with Georgia Southern University

• Iowa

  • Morningside University will absorb St. Luke's College

• New Jersey

  • Kean University will merge with New Jersey City University

• New York

  • Russell Sage College will merge with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The merger is set to finalize by fall 2027

• North Carolina

  • Elon University will acquire Queens University of Charlotte, with the deal expected to conclude in summer 2026

• Oregon

  • Pacific University will merge with Willamette University

• Pennsylvania

  • Villanova University will absorb Rosemont College
